Na območju vzhodne Evrope plače letos rastejo izjemno hitro piše poljski dnevnik Rzeczspopolita. Na Poljskem se je ta v enem letu povečala za 10% in zdaj znaša v povprečju že okoli 900 EUR bruto. Precej hitrejša kot na Poljskem pa je rast v nekaterih drugih novih članicah EU. V latviji je bila povprečna plača v 1 četrtletju letos za 28% višja, kot leto prej, le za nekaj odstotkov manj so se dvignile plače v Bolgariji. V zahodnih državah Evrope je rast plač precej nižja, vendar pa jih bodo vzhodne države vseeno zelo težko kdaj dohitele. Poljska bi za izenačitev z nemškimi plačami ob sedanjem tempu dohitevanja potrebovala okoli 20 let.
