Reid Hofman je bil rojen v Stanfordu, diplomiral je na Standfordski univerzi, magistriral pa na Oxfordu. Delal pri Applu, nekaj časa pa pri podjetju Fujitsu, nato pa je postal soustanovitelj svojega prvega internetnega podjetja Socialnet.com, sodeloval je tudi pri projektu Pay Pal in bil tam eden od vodilnih kadrov.
